South Walton County Florida: For locals and tourists alike, we have this perfect vision of a day, week, month or even a lifetime at the beach. That vision usually includes images of sunny days spent lying on the sand, being with family while frolicking in the waves, and enjoying an entire truckload of relaxing sunsets, sounds, smells, and tastes. For most of us, the tastes are just as important as the sites and sounds, and seafood plays a huge part in our idea of a  perfect time at the beach.

Believe it or not, however, there are some people who love the beach, but would prefer to stay away from eating things that come from the waters around it.  No worries, my seafood hating friends, we here at definitely understand and have you covered. Let your heart not be troubled, as we have compiled a list of some hidden gems that are perfect stand-ins for those who hate seafood, but love the beach and still want to eat something delicious.

Below, you’ll find some of our favorite places to eat that offers some great alternatives to seafood or don’t serve it at all:

  • Cafe Tango on 30A:  If you’re not careful, you’ll miss this little hidden gem which is located just off of Scenic highway 30a in between Gulf Place and Blue Mountain Beach. Up until recently, they only opened for dinner… which makes it an extra special hidden option because not everyone is aware that they now are open for lunch. Seating is limited as the restaurant is actually housed in…well, what used to be a house.

They do serve creatively excellent seafood dishes. For you nonseafood eaters, we recommend the Stuffed Burger for lunch and the 1855 Angus Steak for dinner.

Location: 14 Viki Street in Santa Rosa Beach.

Word of caution, Call ahead for a reservation 850.267.0054.

  • The Wine Bar in Grand BoulevardLocated in the Grand Boulevard shopping center on the north side of Highway 98,  The Wine Bar is a favorite stop for many locals. They feature a variety of options for both seafood and nonseafood lovers…and of course, they have an excellent assortment of wines, beers, and other beverages that would fit most any taste.

We recommend any of their steaks and cheese boards.

Location: They have three locations Watercolor, Grand Boulevard in Miramar Beach, and Destin.

  • 98 BBQLocated in a shopping center on the north side of Highway 98 in Santa Rosa Beach, 98 BBQ is the most authentic southern BBQ place in the area. They feature your traditional bbq favorites like pulled pork, brisket, and chicken, along with burgers and Po boys.

Not really a seafood place, but they do serve a Gator Sausage Po boy that is pretty awesome. We recommend the pulled pork any day of the week, and the creamed corn fritters are a must for one of your side items.

Location: 5008 US-98, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida

Full disclosure: 98 BBQ is an advertiser on, but we loved their food way before they were.

So, there you have it. Three great restaurants where those who don’t love seafood can eat still get their beach experience and eat well too. Give them all a try during your next visit to South Walton.
