Santa Rosa Beach Florida: In an earlier article, I shared some of our favorite Diners, Dives, and Holes in the Wall. This week, let me lay some wisdom on you about a few of our favorite local breakfast eateries.
Breakfast is supposed to be the most important meal of the day, and for some folks, like myself, we love breakfast so much that we’ll often have breakfast foods for lunch or dinner…or a snack…or after a night on the town for a second dinner/super early breakfast. Think about it! Nothing beats some good ol’ biscuits and gravy, shrimp and grits, bacon and eggs, sausage and eggs, and/or pancakes. MMMM Mmmph… I love me some breakfast. If you love it as I do, then you’d probably appreciate someone giving you a heads up as to where you can find it…especially when you’re on vacation and don’t know much about the local eateries.
No worries, I’ve got you covered…. at least where finding morning vittles here in paradise is concerned. Check out our recommendations for some of the best not so well known breakfast joints in the South Walton County area.
Location: Located near the linkside conference center in Sandestin Resort (North Side of Highway 98)
Hours: 7am – 2pm Seven Days per week
Price Point: Affordable
The Appeal: You would think that a restaurant located in Sandestin would have excellent exposure, and everyone would already know about it. While this place is pretty popular with those staying or living in Sandestin, it is still kind of off the beaten path, and as a result, hidden from the mainstream. Unlike many of the better know Sandestin eateries, Sunset bay is not on the beach side of the resort, or in Baytowne. While that is part of the appeal for locals, what really makes it a hidden gem the excellent bay views that enhances an awesome breakfast. They feature a wide array of southern breakfast favorites with a unique twist. Try the Shrimp and Gouda Grits with the chorizo sausage. It’s rocks!
Location: South side of Highway 98 in Miramar Beach, Florida
Hours: 8am – 9pm Seven Days per Week
Price Point: Very Affordable.
The Appeal: You see the words “Greek restaurant” and think to yourself, “do the greeks even eat breakfast?” As a matter of fact, they do, and while Aegean does offer some awesome greek themed lunch and dinner options, their breakfast is straight out of the southern US. Their menu features pancakes, Belgian waffles, biscuits, toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, and every other breakfast favorite you could hope for, and, it’s all at a very affordable price. Try the biscuits and gravy.
Location: North Side of Scenic Highway 30a in Gulf Place.
Hours: Breakfast is served from 8am – 10:30am
Price Point: Considering it is on 30a, it is surprisingly affordable.
The Appeal: While they do have inside seating, La Playa is predominantly Al Fresco…so you can enjoy the awesome Florida sunshine while you dine. They offer Taqueria style of cuisine (not sure what that really means, but if I had to guess, I’d say “delicious”) at lunch and dinner as well, so you can just hang out all day if you like. Not only that, but It’s right across the street from the beach access. So, it’s a great place to grab breakfast before hitting the beach for the day. Try the biscuits. They are as big as your head.
Location: North side of Highway 98 in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida
Hours: 7am – 9pm Monday Thru Saturday. 7am-2pm on Sundays.
Price Point: Very Affordable.
The Appeal: They have a wide array of breakfast offerings which features everything from Mexican inspired dishes to more traditional American favorites. It is quite affordable, rarely too crowded, and very quick and delicious. Try the Huevos Rancheros. Good Stuff.
